I've tried to write political poems, and they tend to come out sounding very... rhetorical, very pedantic, nowhere near personal enough to actually qualify, in my mind, as a real poem.
But writing about the emotions in-which I swim? That's when things actually start flowing. (Whether they're *good* or not is another story, but they're *there*, at the very least).
